The Importance of Professional Pest Inspections for Your Home

If the idea of pests lurking around your home gives you the heebie-jeebies, you aren’t alone. Nobody likes to think about pests crawling out of corners, the sink drain, or even under foot.

But the truth is, researchers say the average household has up to 100 different species of bugs living in it. That means you’re sharing your home with a lot of unwanted houseguests.

Now a lot of those are microscopic species that you’ll never actually see. But it also includes household pests like cockroaches, spiders, and centipedes that you definitely don’t want hanging around.

Even though these pests are there, it’s not uncommon for people not to realize it. Household pests are expert hiders. This is why professional pest inspections are so valuable. Homeowners rarely realize that pests are making their way inside. And even if they do spot pests here and there, chances are, they have no idea where they’re coming from.

In this article, we’ll dive into what you ought to know about pest control inspections and why they’re worth investing in.

Pest Control Inspection Checklist

Whether you have an existing problem or you’re just looking to prevent pests for the future, a pest inspection is going to seek out potential problem areas and implement solutions.

But what exactly does that mean?

We can explain what’s involved in a pest inspection for a Joshua Tree client.

Premium Plan Inspections

At Joshua Tree Experts, during our Pest Shield Premium service, the pest management professional will conduct an exterior inspection of the house. The exterior inspection being conducted is for any noticeable pest, pest activity such as rodent pathways, or pest damage.

A few more examples include torn screens, cracks and crevices that need to be sealed, and rodent damage on siding. The pest management professional will communicate any pest concerns, or exclusion repairs that they recommend being done with the client.

Since a pest problem is going to originate from the outside, the focus of our pest control inspections is on the exterior of the home. However, an interior inspection (included for our Pest Shield Premium clients) would include areas of concern, traps, and monitoring stations. An example of an interior monitoring station would be a glue board that the pest management professional places down to monitor pest activity.

Barrier Plan Inspections

For our Pest Shield Barrier clients, the pest inspection is focused only on the exterior of the home.

Again, since we’re focused on being proactive, this is the most important place to look for pest entry points. However, if you have an existing problem, it’s worth upgrading and adding that interior inspection.

Our Premium program also covers rodent control, addressing common problems like mice.

Mosquito, Flea, and Tick Inspections

While this article is really focused on common household pests and the inspections involved in seeking out those problems, we would be remiss if we didn’t mention that our pest management professionals performing mosquito, flea, and tick services are also performing inspections.

While these are exterior pests and addressed a different way, the inspections involved in locating problems are critical to the success of our program.

For each mosquito, flea, and tick service the pest management professional is responsible for inspecting the property while treating. They are on the lookout for any standing water sites, examples being tarps collecting water, buckets, trash cans with no lids, uncleaned gutters, extra.

After their inspection, the pest management professional will then communicate with the client that such standing water sites should be eliminated or dumped at least once a week in order to avoid creating mosquito breeding habitats and to maintain a reduced population. If the grass is too tall and should be cut down to help manage potential tick and flea populations the professional will communicate this as well to the client.

These inspections and this communication is a key reason why our services go above and beyond what others offer. We’re truly looking to help you find success in enjoying time outside without these pests.

It’s What You Do After a Pest Inspection that Matters

While the inspection is important, it’s also what your pest control expert does with that information that really counts. You need to make sure that an action plan is put into place.

At Joshua Tree Experts, once you have had a thorough inspection performed, you should expect that you’re going to receive a comprehensive plan that is customized to your wants and needs. Exactly what that plan looks like can differ from client to client (and property to property).

That plan will include immediate action for an existing problem. But it will also include a proactive approach to prevent that problem from occurring again. With residential pest control, we are applying exterior treatments around the outside of your home. This acts as a shield that helps keep pests out in the first place.

The best pest control plans are those that take this proactive approach. The goal is to do what you can to prevent an infestation from even having the chance to occur.

Pest Inspection Cost

One thing that is different about Joshua Tree Experts is our transparency with information, including costs. Our starting prices for pest control services are clearly stated on our website.
